2008 Tourism Industry luncheon with the

Federal Tourism Minister the Hon. Martin Ferguson MP

Tourism Alliance Victoria and William Angliss Institute proudly hosted the 2008 Tourism Industry Luncheon on Thursday 17th April. 110 industry colleagues heard the insightful first address to the Victorian tourism industry by the Federal Minister, The Hon. Martin Ferguson MP.

The new Government’s key priorities looking to the year ahead are:

        - Mainstreaming the tourism debate as tourism is a key economic driver for Australia, especially as a key export industry worth $22 billion  annually.

        - The critical need for the industry to speak with one voice.

        - The importance of national accreditation for quality product that is attractive to both domestic and international markets.

        - Other issues included the high yield business events sector; developing indigenous tourism product; and an infrastructure audit to prioritise investment.

Of particular note was the Minister’s other portfolios of Energy and Resources, for in the tourism industry, one needs plenty of energy and resources!

Angliss students prepared and served a delicious three course meal in the refurbished Angliss Restaurant. This event was a key networking opportunity and highlighted the strength of the Victorian tourism industry.
