Profiling Victoria VIC's

Tourism Alliance Victoria conducted a data capture survey of accredited VICs in July 2006. The purpose of the survey was to gain information on VIC practices, services and structures in order to better understand accredited VICs in Victoria and utilise the information to further assist VICs in the future.

It is intended to undertake this survey on an annual basis in order to provide sufficient and accurate information to industry stakeholders and continue to assist accredited VICs in the future. The data can also be used as a benchmarking tool for accredited VICs and allow comparisons to be made on yearly basis.

About Visitor Information Centres

Visitor Information Centres (VICs) are designed to enrich the experience of Visitors to a region and to encourage them to stay longer. This is achieved through informing the visitor of what to do and see and where to stay. Research on VICs in Victoria, New South Wales and Canada has shown that VICs increase the amount of money visitors spend in a region and they contribute to dispersal.

What is Accreditation?

Because there are few barriers to starting up a business in the tourism industry it is essential for the industry to have a benchmarking tool. Accreditation ensures that a commitment to professionalism and good business practice is applied. Accreditation is essentially a set of standards that have been established by and for the tourism industry covering good business practice and customer service. This means when you visit an Accredited tourism business you are entitled to expect professional service in a well-managed and safe environment.
