2011 Lynette Bergin Tourism Fellowship This year, the Lynette Bergin Tourism Fellowship has been awarded to Despina Karatzias, Manager at Global Ballooning. The award will help Despina research two international regions, Cappadocia in Turkey and Tuscany in Italy, that are renowned for their world class food and wine and hot air ballooning. The Fellowship will allow Despina to experience similar tourism products and offerings in these regions and compare them with Global Ballooning’s home base in the Yarra Valley. Despina intends to come away from this project with new strategies for tourism management and knowledge of how to offer better quality tourist services and effective destination marketing in order to address the ongoing challenge of poor dispersal of international visitors to regional Victoria. The Lynette Bergin Tourism Fellowship is a yearly fellowship that seeks to promote professional and personal development, practical skills and knowledge among young people and new entrants in the tourism industry, and contribute to the continued improvement and growth of tourism in Victoria. |
Victorian tourism leader recognised Wayne was a founding member of the Country Victoria Tourism Council, which together with the Victorian Tour Operators Association, went on to form Tourism Alliance in 2004. Then, as now, Wayne saw the need for industry representation. The revitalised VTIC structure was his vision and response to an even greater need for a unified voice that would make for more effective representation. Wayne was also the recipient of the 2010 Victorian Tourism Award for Outstanding Contribution by an Individual. |
