Tourism Industry Cricket Day 2007 - Industry is Victorious again!

Well there is no denying it was certainly a hot one! With a hot 38 degrees forecasted for the day I think everyone was worried about the heat but with the gardens of Werribee Park providing us with much needed shade and a lovely breeze to match, it became an enjoyable day.  Throw into the mix some icy poles too and I think that also helped the situation!

So with picnics set out, positions determined the coin was tossed and the industry side were sent in to bat.

With the benefit of a small boundary, egos were boosted with many 6’s and 4s hit across the day.  Matt Jones from the Royal Botanic Gardens enjoyed his turn with the bat and made 39 off 15 balls, giving him the highest score of the day.  Other high scorers for the industry side were Stephen Hill from Oamps with 24, Mark Phelps from Sita Coathes with 23 and Tom Smith from Shipwreck Coast Tourism with 19.

Nigel Aldons from Tourism Victoria also gave the ball a nudge with 28 off 11.  He was their highest scorer of the day followed by Robert Brickley and Paul Baron who both made 17 runs.

In the field, honorable mentions must go to Terry Hickey from Geelong Otway Tourism for his bowling efforts and Kenji Takamori from Tourism Victoria for his brilliant one handed catch on the boundary.

The industry side were too good for Tourism Victoria (again!) and won the match by 56 runs.  A great day was had by all, and many are already looking forward to next year’s event.  A special thank you to Parks Victoria for allowing us to have the event at Werribee Park and for complimentary entry for all who attended.
