Opening of the new Mansfield VIC & Interpretive Centre where ..." all the cracks had gathered to the fray"Minister for Tourism John Pandazopolous, openned the new Mansfield VIC and Interpretive Centre on Friday 9th June to a packed house of local government and community leaders from the Shire of Mansfield. Representing Minister for Victorian Communities, John Thwaites, Mr Pandazopolous was pleased to see the outcome of many years of discussions which included funding from the Community Support Fund for the VIC. Architect Greg Burgess was the project architect which is a stunning rammed earth building with corrugated iron roof and aboriginal totem poles at the entrance. As one of Australia's best known Architects, Greg's repetoire includes the 12 Apostles Visitor Information Centre at Port Campbell, the Brambruk Cultural Centre in the Grampians National Park, Melbourne's Sydney Myer Music Bowl and the Uluru Cultural Centre in Central Australia. VIC Manager Ms Deb Shaddock said that the new centre would accommodate 9 work stations. "As we do all of the reservations for both Mansfield and Mt Buller, it was as important to have the back office right as well as the front section of the VIC. Obviously winter is an extremely busy time for our centre and we had out grown the old VIC. This new facility will not only be great for handling visitor enquiries but it is an attraction in it's own right." |
